Former Kmart and Hobby Lobby Building, Marion
Sitting just off the bypass in Marion is an empty building once home to Kmart and most recently Hobby Lobby. While the building's been vacant for some time now, a few reports have said former employees experienced strange occurrences. Sparse claims say workers felt uneasy when working in the rear portion of the building. The tales center upon a "creeped out feeling" the employees would experienced.
The building's size, as well as the liveliness of a consumer store would lend itself to the feelings of not being alone. Even when closed, a large store would seem to be alive with activity. Those claims also relate to the EMF (electromagnetic field) concept, where high levels can make individuals who may be highly sensitive to EMFs feel paranoid, as if their being watched, and just an overall creeped out.
I've asked a former Kmart worker in the building about the claims, to which he seemed baffled. That isn't a surprise, given the few stories about the building. But also, the claims might come from the later, Hobby Lobby employees. With research, several more tales may rise to the surface. Maybe the length of time the building's been empty is a reason for the lack of claims. For the city, I hope the rumors of the building having paranormal activity isn't the reason it still sits vacant.
